Carol Concert at Saffron Walden Almshouses

Saturday, 9 December will see members of Saffron Walden Choral Society singing well-known carols in an outside concert in front of the town’s Almshouses, which front onto Abbey Lane. Starting at 4pm, the concert will feature well-known carols – as well as some that may be less familiar. There will also be a fundraising collection, the aim of which is to support both the Choral Society and Almshouses equally.

Sara Varey, Chair of Saffron Walden Choral Society said:

“We want this to become an annual concert and were delighted when Saffron Walden Almshouses agreed to support our plans. We hope it brings some cheer to everyone and any funds raised on the day will be split evenly between our two charities.”

Chair of Saffron Walden Almshouses, Gary Hyams, commented:

“Working together on the carol concert has been a very positive experience and it shows how local charities can collaborate to raise awareness and much-needed funds. We hope that the weather is kind and that everyone who comes along has a lovely time.”

The concert will start at 4pm just in front of the Almshouses’ former chapel at the front of the building. There is no parking on site and pedestrian access will be via Abbey Lane – stewards will be on hand to help direct people on the day. As it will be dark for this free, hour-long event, those attending are advised to dress accordingly, bring a torch and wear suitable shoes.
