Tim completes Ride London in aid of the Almshouses
We are extremely grateful to Tim, who completed the 100-mile Ride London cycling event in May and has raised over £2,200 for Saffron Walden Almshouses! You can read all about his experiences on his JustGiving page here: www.justgiving.com/page/tim-hill-ridelondon24 – and there is still time to donate if you would like to contribute!
Reflecting on his achievement, Tim said ‘I’ve been riding a bike regularly for about three years with a local cycling group, and after completing my first 100-mile ride last summer, I decided to tackle the 2024 Ride London event alongside over 20,000 others.
I chose to raise money for Saffron Walden Almshouses, a charity local to me which provides affordable homes for local people on low incomes, providing a safety net for people who don’t qualify for social housing, or who wouldn’t be prioritised for urgent assistance. The charity is about to embark on an ambitious project to build 16 new modern, energy-efficient flats, and I wanted to do something to contribute to this very worthwhile cause.
It was an amazing day, beginning with riding along huge, empty London streets at 5am, before meeting up with my cycling group so that we could cross the start line together. The route took in villages, motorways, hills (both up and down!), wound through woodland, and past the Olympic Park, and then back into central London, where we were greeted by cheering spectators and motorists beeping their encouragement. The last stretch was hugely emotional, as we turned the final corner and Tower Bridge suddenly loomed in front of us; a moment I will remember for the rest of my life. The feeling of accomplishment and relief was overwhelming, and I was thrilled to collect my medal and meet up with my cycling group to celebrate!’
